Hans Wilsdorf is the man behind the successful image of Rolex today. He came up with the idea of producing watches which would be the first in their kind. The company was established in 1905 as Wilsdorf Davis but in 1908 it was replaced by the name of Rolex. In 1910, the company which was just five years old became so highly popular that it won the prize of the first Chronometer ever produced by a watch company.
The wrist watches introduced by Rolex also made a boom in the industry. These were the first wrist watches which fitted consumers hand perfectly. Earlier consumers were not very pleased with the wrist watches made by other brands due to their large sizes. Aeglar the Swiss watch company was the one who was manufacturing small wrist watch movements for Rolex.
In 1928 Rolex again moved the industry by producing the first ever waterproof watches. The name was Rolex Prince launched in rectangular shape. Consumers loved this release because they could keep their highly expensive watches away from water and dust. The collection of Rolex has come out in three groups namely formal, casual and sporty. The most prominent launches of Rolex watches earlier were Perpetual Rotor, Oyster Perpetual Lady date, GMT Master Etc. It was in the year 1960 when the company was acquired by Andre Heiniger and he kept on producing some professional watches for divers like Sea Dweller, Explorer II, and Cosmograph Daytona.
